Nathaniel is a graduate of New Freedom High School here in Bethlehem, PA and a second year student at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in the honors program studying environmental science. This summer, he interned at the Bethlehem Township Parks and Recreation Department. He has always had an interest in the environment, but was impacted by a high school field trip to the Municipal Sewer Authority which he found fascinating and increased his respect for the authority industry and the people who work in it. He is particularly interested in water stewardship, how to effectively manage water resources, conservation, preservation and water treatment. He is looking forward to using this scholarship to continue his studies in pursuit of doing work which will impact the environment in a positive manner and contribute to the enhancement of the health and welfare of his community. Danica is in her first year of study at Delaware Valley University majoring in chemistry with a concentration in environmental science. She was an intern in the lab at the East Pennsboro Wastewater Treatment Plant the last two summers and learned scientific instrument operation, sample prep, chemical handling and lab safety. She also expressed interest in earning an Operator Certification to become a wastewater treatment plant operator and eventually pursue a treatment plant manager position. Danica has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship towards her college degree.
