C ommuNiCatioNs C ommittEE This issue, Municipal Authority Board Member Primer , serves, in part, as a reference guide for new and veteran authority board members on some of the most important fundamental board member responsibilities including: • Preparing and conducting yourself at public meetings, • Understanding key financial reporting and planning duties, • Deciphering puzzling and complex sections of the Municipality Authorities Act, and more. Board members establish the policies, guidelines, powers and limitations under which the authority will operate to serve the citizens of the incorporating municipality. They should exercise due diligence and be conscientious in fulfilling their duties while remaining mindful of appropriate boundaries and the scope of their responsibilities. Contributing authors in this issue range from solicitors and financial experts to PMAA staff and even a lay person’s perspective who addresses questions new board members typically have. Building knowledge in these essential areas will better equip you and your authority board to make sound decisions for your authority and community, both now and in the future. This issue also features highlights from this year’s conference, capturing the memories we made while learning, growing, and inspiring one another to Be the Change .
