He was born in Erie on June 19, 1937 and was a 1955 graduate of McDowell High School and 1971 graduate from Gannon University with a BS degree in Business Administration. Following high school, he served in the US Air Force for four years, stationed in California and England. He worked several years in the family construction business John S. Agnello & Son; the Erie Public Library; Cafaro Development; Huber Hunt & Nichols; the Limited Inc. and 34 years as the Manager of the Fairview Township Sewer and Water Authorities. After retirement he worked part time for Erie Restoration Inc. He loved working in his yard, taking rides with his wife, Jan, and following his children and grandchildren in their activities; watching movies and taking care of his various cars and model trains. John actively worked with the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association (PMAA), served on the Annual Conference Committee; the Board of Directors as Director of Region 8 for three 3-year terms and as the Chairman of the Board of the Unemployment Compensation Trust. He was honored by PMAA with the Red Davis Award in 2009, and along with his wife, Jan, received the William H. Marcus Award in 2018. John was an active member of the Girard Athletic Boosters for over 25 years, holding many Board positions. He was a member of St. Jude Parish and had previously been an active member of St. John’s Parish in Girard and Holy Cross in Fairview. P eter K. M ac E wen Pete, a respected leader in water supply and resource engineering, passed away January 26, 2026, at age 91. A licensed professional engineer in Pennsylvania and New Jersey for 45 years, Mr. MacEwen devoted four decades to advancing public water infrastructure and policy. He served as Executive Manager and Chief Engineer of the Chester Water Authority for 24 years, retiring in 1997. Earlier in his career, he held engineering roles with the Delaware River Basin Commission and American Water Works Service Company. A graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie University, he earned an M.S. in Civil Engineering–Economic Planning from Stanford University. Mr. MacEwen was a life member of ASCE, AWWA, and PMAA, serving as PMAA President and Chair of the Pennsylvania Section of AWWA. His honors included the George Warren Fuller Award, Samuel S. Baxter Award, L.W. “Red” Davis Award (1991), William H. Markus Award (1996), and Delaware County Engineer of the Year. His career reflected a lasting commitment to professional excellence and public service.
