Groups meeting in the Education Center also get a tour of the YCRRC and learn about respon- sible waste management. In addition to hosting the public at their Education Center, YCSWA also offers hands-on, portable educational programs available for ages six and up. Vermicomposting (worm composting) is the practice of using special com- posting worms to create a rich compost by-product from food waste. Partici- pants get a quick anatomy lesson of the redworm and then construct their own worm bin with materials provided by YCSWA. Vermicomposting discusses the challenges of food waste in the waste industry and mitigation practices of diverting that waste. Recycled Paper Revelations introduces participants to the origins of paper, the process of papermaking and the impact it has on the environment, and the impor- tance of recycling paper. This program culminates with participants making their own piece of recycled paper from supplies provided by YCSWA. Both Vermicomposting and Recycled Paper Revelations offer tangible, take-home examples of recycling practices that can be built upon at home.
