1 the uSS Gettysburg Crew visits Gettysburg national military Park the Gettysburg Foundation was pleased to welcome the officers and crew of the USS Gettysburg (CG 64) to the Gettysburg national military Park last month. as part of the visit, the group toured the museum, took a guided tour of the battlefield, and helped maintain headstones in the Soldiers’ national Cemetery. along with several other activities with the borough of Gettysburg, master Chief Fire Controlman Christopher allen reenlisted at Gettysburg Foundation’s lincoln train station. the ship’s commanding officer, Captain Corey Keniston, and lieutenant Junior Grade Jeff Bortz, the ship’s navigator, presented the Foundation with a navy Jack that will be flown over various sites of the battlefield and returned to the uSS Gettysburg to be taken to sea when the ship returns to service in 2019 after a modernization program. 2 the Sherfy and Bushman Gardens are Blooming and Blogging Friends volunteers, led by master gardener and Friend of Gettysburg Jolene matlock, do an outstanding job with the gardens at the Sherfy house and Bushman farm. thanks to their hard work in partnership with Gettysburg national military Park and Gettysburg College, they have donated thousands of pounds of food to those in need. you can now stay up-to-date with what’s growing at the garden with the newly published Gettysburg Garden Blog titled, What’s Growing On? Gettysburg Gardens . visit gettysburgfoundation.org for details. 3 25th anniversary of the movie Gettysburg the Gettysburg Foundation, in partnership with the Journey through hallowed Ground is bringing the epic Civil War Film, Gettysburg , back home for its 25th anniversary with Director ron maxwell and special guests. a viP event on Friday october 12 includes a live performance by Stephen lang who played General Pickett in the film Gettysburg. he will focus on the trials and turmoil of soldiers from different eras, culled from his dramatic plays “Wheatfield,” “Beyond Glory,” and “his Dark land.” his performance will speak to the challenges of bringing history to life on film and stage. he will be accompanied that evening by prominent historian harold holzer. Special behind the scene tours and premium seating for the film viewing at the majestic are also included.
